Breast Lift
As a woman ages, her skin loses its elasticity, and changes in breast shape, size, and firmness often follow. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations can also cause sagging breasts. Dr. Daniel Reichner can perform breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, in Orange County, CA, to reshape and raise the breasts, repositioning the nipple to a more youthful position.

How Does a Breast Lift Work?
Breast lift techniques may vary depending on the amount of sagging. Still, the most common procedure involves an incision around the areola and down the middle of the breast that follows the natural breast contour. This allows the breast to be reshaped, the areola to be made smaller, and the nipple to be placed higher.
The incision starts slightly pinker or darker than the surrounding skin, but continues to fade over time. Mastopexy will relocate the nipple and areola to a higher position, reposition the breast tissue to a higher level, remove excess skin from the breast, and reshape all remaining skin. Closing the remaining skin will help reshape and lift the breast to a higher position.

Often, if a patient desires, breast augmentation is performed together with a breast lift to restore more shape to the breasts. If an implant is inserted along with the breast lift, it will be placed in a pocket directly under the breast tissue or deeper under the chest wall muscle.
Who Needs a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a good option for patients whose breasts have sagged or are asymmetrical in shape. It is also ideal for those with downward-pointing nipples or stretched areolas. Patients must be in good health, and their expectations should also be realistic.
This surgery may not be suitable if you are pregnant, planning to breastfeed soon, have untreated medical conditions, or are not cleared for anesthesia.
Your Breast Lift Consultation
Patients who need mastopexy are encouraged to schedule a consultation to learn more about the procedure. During the consultation, questions about their health and goals will be raised, and their breasts will be examined to help determine the details of the procedure.
The Procedure
A breast lift begins with anesthesia. Next, the chosen incisions are created. Excess skin is removed, and the tissues are reshaped. The areolae may be resized or repositioned. Finally, incisions are closed with sutures.
The Recovery Process
Following the breast lift, patients will feel tenderness and minor discomfort around the affected area. Swelling and some bruising will also occur. During recovery, it is highly recommended that patients sleep on their backs. Any rigorous physical activities should be postponed for several weeks until the patient is fully healed.
Benefits of a Breast Lift
The breast lift benefits include:
- Improved breast shape and firmness
- Raised, youthful breast appearance
- Long-lasting contour when weight remains stable
- Symmetry enhancement for a balanced silhouette
- Natural-looking breast lift results
