Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Conveniently located to serve Orange County, CA
Ear surgery, also known as “otoplasty,” is a procedure that improves the size, shape, and position of the ears. Otoplasty can correct the structures of misshapen ears and alter the ears to appear more natural and balanced with the rest of the head and face. Results from ear reshaping surgery generally last a lifetime and boosts the patient’s self-confidence.
Make Ears Looks More Natural
Ear surgery repairs a wide variety of flaws or deformities in the ears caused by genetics, birth defects, or trauma, including:
- Ears that protrude from the head
- Cauliflower ear and other disfigurations
- Split or torn earlobes
- Widened piercing holes
- Macrotia (overly large ears)
It’s important for patients to schedule an otoplasty consultation in order to get more details about the procedure. During the visit, your ears will be examined to determine exactly how your cosmetic issues can be addressed. You will also be asked questions related your medical history, including any medications you are currently taking.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the procedure, the consultation would be the best time to bring them up. This will ensure that you are informed about what to expect on the day of the procedure.
Ear Surgery Recovery
After the otoplasty procedure, patients should not drive themselves home and should instead arrange for a friend or family member to drive them home. Once they get home, they will need to rest and recover.
Following ear surgery, patients can expect some minor discomfort during the recovery period. Some swelling and bruising will also occur, but these will subside in due time. Patients will be advised to sleep on their backs and not on their sides while the affected areas are still healing.
How Much Does Ear Surgery Cost?
The cost of ear surgery can vary based on several factors. Price can be affected by the total time needed to perform the procedure, the techniques utilized, and anesthesia fees.

Who is a candidate for ear surgery?
Those in good overall health without a life-threatening illness or chronic ear infections are candidates for ear surgery. Potential patients should not have any medical conditions that can impair healing, and protruding ears can be treated if they are not associated with hearing loss.
Is there an age requirement for otoplasty in children?
As long as the child is a good candidate for the procedure, he or she may undergo otoplasty once the ear cartilage is stable enough for correction (generally around five or six years of age).
Where are the incisions placed for otoplasty?
The incisions for ear surgery are usually placed on the back surface of the ear, which makes scarring virtually undetectable. If incisions need to be made on the front of the ear, they will be placed within the folds to make them as inconspicuous as possible.
How long after surgery will the results of otoplasty be visible?
Protruding ears will be immediately improved after surgery, and more extensive corrections will develop as the ears heal over time. Your surgeon will give you more details about your recovery and results based on your individual condition.
